No era ya una guerra doméstica, sino la confrontación de dos fuerzas antagónicas; una apoyada en su poderío bélico y su odio irracional, y la otra esgrimiendo la fuerza de la razón y su dignidad como únicas armas. Con un final inesperado, la novela nos transporta al ambiente hostil de la época, y nos presenta un paisaje brumoso, oscurecido por la pólvora, que finalmente, la crudeza de la guerra nos vuelve a la realidad de nuestras propias debilidades y nos muestra el carácter autodestructivo del hombre. 3
