A hemofilia é um grupo de doenças hereditárias em que o sangue não coagula corretamente. A hemofilia não está normalmente associada a uma maior incidência ou a qualquer outra anomalia congénita. A incidência é de cerca de 1:10000 nascimentos masculinos e todas as raças, religiões e grupos socioeconómicos são afectados. Hemofilia é a ortografia internacional padrão, também conhecida como hemofilia no Reino Unido, outras traduções incluem: hemofilie, haemofili, hemophilie, hemophilia, emofilia. A hemofilia tem dois tipos: Hemofilia A: Esta doença é causada por deficiência do Fator VIII (FVIII) e Hemofilia B: É causada por deficiência do Fator IX*.
