O Regulamento n.º 0001/CIMA/PCMA/PCE/2011, de 11 de abril de 2011, que altera e completa as disposições do Código dos Seguros relativas à subscrição e à gestão dos contratos, refere-o claramente. O pagamento do prémio é um elemento incontornável da gestão dos sinistros. A lei estipula que: a apólice produz efeitos desde que o segurado pague integralmente o prémio. Esta disposição responde às numerosas falhas técnicas do mercado, como os atrasos no pagamento dos prémios, e reforça o princípio 'SEM PRÉMIO, SEM GARANTIA'.
